09.15 |
Focused PoCUS for obstructive uropathy Many patients present with loin to groin pain. This presentation will focus on giving you the knowledge, skills and evidence to look for acute urology problems, such as renal stones and urinary retention. |

10.00 |
Focused PoCUS for chest pain Many patients present with chest pain. This presentation will focus on giving you the knowledge, skills and evidence to look for important causes of chest pain you don’t want to miss. |
10.15 |
Focused PoCUS for swollen legs Does your patient present with a swollen limb? This presentation will focus on giving you the knowledge, skills and evidence to look for acute important causes, such as DVT and cellulitis. |
10.30 |
Break |
11.00 |
My patient's hypotensive, what’s the cause? Strategies to assess the shocked patient. Many patients present with a low BP. How can you quickly identify the four key causes of shock? The various approaches and protocols will be discussed. |
11.15 |
My patient’s hypotensive, should I give them more fluid? Strategies to assess fluid status. Many patients present with a low BP. How can you decide who will benefit from fluid boluses and who will not. The various approaches, from simple to more advanced, will be discussed. |
11.30 |
Simple systems to help you evaluate your echo images quickly. You may be able to obtain suitable echo images, but are you able to quickly evaluate these and identify key problems and pathology. Using simple structured approaches such as DEFG, EEEEE, FFFF, and SHOC-ED will be discussed with the use of some examples. |
11.45 |
Focused transoesophageal PoCUS The simplified approach of focused TOE has arrived. Can I learn to apply fTOE to my practice? Is it worth it? |
12.00 |
My patient's in pain - easy and effective nerve blocks Many patients present with pain following acute injury. Using regional plane and nerve blocks is now established. We will describe some of the simple and effective blocks that you can easily apply to your practice. |
12.15 |
Using PoCUS to aid my lumbar puncture, epidural and spinal anaesthetic Undertaking procedures involving the insertion of a needle into the back, such as for lumbar punctures, epidurals and spinal anaesthetics. We describe how ultrasound can simply be used to improve your success rates. |

Lunch |
13.30 |
Practical stations: Stations will rotate every 30 minutes. Delegates will be able to choose to attend up to 6 stations There will be abreak at 15.00 for 30 mins |
PoCUS challenge 1 - who can get the images in the quickest time? Prizes for the best! This station will test delegates scanning skills in how quick they can generate a number of images on a model which are deemed good enough. Prizes for the top three best performances! |
PoCUS challenge 2 - can you identify all the abnormal findings? Prizes for the best! This station will test delegates interpretation skills in how many abnormalities they can spot for a range of clips and images. You only get to look at each clip/image for a short amount of time, so the pressure is on. Prizes for the top three best performances! |
PoCUS challenge 3 - can you hit the right spot using a needle on a phantom? Prizes for the best This station will test delegates ultrasound-guided procedural skills in how quick they can guide a needle using a phantom. Prizes for the top three best performances! |
Gallbladder and biliary station This station will focus on identification of the gallbladder, including fungus, body and neck, and how to find the common bile duct. Different approaches, planes, and positioning will be described. |
Kidneys and bladder station This station will focus on identification of the kidney, ureter (where visualied), and bladder. Key sono-anatomy, dimensions, pathology, and clinical relevance will be described. |
Appendix station This station will focus on identification of the appendix. Different approaches, planes, and anatomical variations will be described. |
PoCUS for short of breath station This station will focus on identification of important causes of dyspnoea, you do not want to miss. Key windows, findings and a structured approach will be described. |
PoCUS for chest pain station This station will focus on identification of important causes of chest pain you do not want to miss. Key windows, findings and a structured approach will be described. |
PoCUS for DVT station This station will focus on identification of a lower limb deep vein thrombosis. Focused scanning approaches, as well as the feasibility of identifying below knee veins, will be described. How to apply focused and full scans to your practice will be covered. |
PoCUS for the shocked patient station This station will focus on using a structured approach to scanning the shocked patient. The pros and cons of each approach will be discussed. |
PoCUS for assessing fluid status This station will focus on being able to assess a patient’s fluid status, especially ascertaining when fluids are indicated, and reassessing after boluses. |
Focused transoesophageal PoCUS station This station will focus on demonstrating the 8 key windows of fTOE using a state of the art simulator. Opportunities for hands on and simulated pathology cases. |
